IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Zuber Eugene
Logston
March 22, 1944 – June 3, 2025
Zuber "Gene" E. Logston, age 81, passed away at home on Tuesday, June 3, 2025. He was born on March 22, 1944, in Chicago, Illinois to Charles and Ora Logston. Gene worked at Illinois Bell (Ameritech when he retired) for 28 years in the various roles of installer, lineman, splicer and tool room manager. After a short attempt at full retirement, he found satisfaction and happiness in driving a bus for the Oswego School district for 11 years. He was a devoted volunteer with Boy Scout Troop 31, dedicating close to 20 years of his time as a merit badge instructor, committee member, and Eagle Scout mentor. He was a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow, earned Wood Badge, and was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award for service to scouts.
Gene was a dedicated husband, loving father, grandfather, uncle, and a loyal friend. He and his wife Nancy took numerous camping trips with friends and family throughout the years. They took cruises, rode trains and explored parts of Europe until growing health concerns made travel difficult. When a niece needed a minister for her wedding, Gene became an ordained minister to honor her request. While Gene had no specific loyalty to any professional sports teams, he was extremely loyal to the teams his grandchildren played for. He attended numerous soccer games with a voice that carried above the crowd. He could be found at band and choir concerts, play performances, and robotics competitions. If his grandchildren asked, he was there.
Gene is survived by his wife of 55 years Nancy nee Davidson Logston, his two children Craig (Shelley) Logston and Kimberlie (Joshua) Mattern, his four grandchildren Nathan Logston, Nicholas Logston, Christian Mattern and Charlotte Mattern, his brother Timothy (Zully) Logston, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Ora Logston and his brother Charles Logston Jr.
