William Patrick "Bill" Smith, loving husband of Nora (Conway) Smith, passed away while enjoying one of his great passions, hiking, while at the Grand Canyon on June 22, 2021 at the young age of 60.
Bill was born in Aurora, IL on December 22, 1960 to Hazel and Daniel Smith. He was a licensed clinical social worker and spent the last decade with Pinnacle Care. He utilized his amazing people skills to support others in various volunteer positions including through his parish, grief counseling, involvement in the Big Brother program, reminiscance and holocaust survivor groups, and used his massage therapy skills during the Aids epidemic to provide peace and comfort to those affected. Bill's final act of service was providing his organs to those in need.
He brought light, love and laughter to everyone he met. Bill packed 120 years worth of generosity, caring and joy into his 60 years. He was tender and compassionate, but to know him was to embrace his infectious sense of humor. He suffered great losses in his short life, and was so grateful to find Nora to share his life with. He enjoyed being out in nature and found beauty in the simplest of things (the dew on a flower, the position of the sun on the water, the breeze blowing the tall grass, and in the end the expanse of the great Grand Canyon vistas). He loved his family and friends fiercely and never forgot to acknowledge important events and milestones. He was the glue that kept those relationships going. He was a friend to all creatures, feeding the birds and squirrels and anything else in need. He loved his cats Bandit and Smokey and his dog Tara who is already missing her walks with him where he let her off leash to really explore. He enjoyed a wide range of music and supported many local establishments with his patronage to enjoy his favorite bands. He would push himself to the front to take all those photos and frequently left the concert with the playlist or a confiscated poster. He introduced music to family and friends and if you were a friend you were frequently gifted with music. He was an avid musician and could play a variety of instruments and was often found playing alongside nieces and nephews, friends and family at gatherings.
Bill will be missed by many, near and far.
He was a loving brother to Paul Smith, Trish Smith, Barbara (Tim) Schomer, Jeanine (Brad) Dhesi. Father by heart to Meg Vazquez.
A favorite uncle to nieces and nephews Chrystal (Jerry), Dylan, Jacie, Quinn, Luke, Chloe (Jorge), Daniel, Kevin, Michael (Denisse), Brendan, Charlotte, Lillian, Jonathan, David (Aubrey), and Jeff Nelson, Amanda, Alyssa, and Alena DeBoer, John, Dan, and Lauren Barbieri, Matthew Conway, great nieces and nephew Layla, Melody, Addison and Greyson.
He was welcomed into the Conway family in 2014 by Ann, JoEllen (Larry), Tom (Stacy), and Sue. He was loved by Marian Roche (mother-in-law), Sisters-in-law: Eileen Moriarity and Joan Hoigard, and his brother-in-laws/amigo's Aiden Moriarity, Kurt Hoigard, and Gus Slovinsky as well as many friends and family members
He was a lover of all living creatures including his pets Bandit, Smokey, Tara, and (his step-brother) Charlie.
Preceded in death by his father Daniel Smith, father-in-law John Conway, beloved first wife Kathleen Roche Smith and her father Charlie Roche, sister-in-law Mary Roche Slovinsky and unfortunately many other close family members and friends.
