Wayne A. Westvig, 64, of Sheridan died Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at OSF. St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Wayne was born June 23, 1949 in Aurora to Alfred & Alice (Ellis) Westvig. He was a 1967 graduate of Serena High School. Wayne served as a light weapons infantry SP4 in the U.S. Army from 1968 - 1970 and received the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, two Purple Hearts and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation. He married Kris Tirevold December 7, 1984 at the home of Kris's parents. He had been a long time farmer in the Serena area and had a truck driver for Trimac for many years. He was a member of Sheridan American Legion Post #729 and the Sheridan United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife Kris; his two sons, Corbin Westvig of Sheridan, Cooper Westvig of Sheridan; a granddaughter, Claire Lillian Westvig; a brother and two sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10:00 a.m. till 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 27th at the Gabel-Dunn Funeral Home Ltd. In Sheridan. Interment of cremains with military honors will be Tuesday 1:00 p.m. at the Sheridan Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Sheridan Volunteer Ambulance Service or the Sheridan American Legion.
