Walter C. "Sonny" Weeden Jr., of Oswego, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home after a long battle with cancer on March 23rd, 2021.
He was born on May 3rd, 1938 in Chicago, the second of ten children to the late Walter C. and Evelyn (nee Excell) Weeden, Sr. Walt was married to his love Peggy for over 58 years. Longtime residents of Park Forest, Illinois, they raised their children and made many lifelong friends among their neighbors in Area J. They moved to Oswego in 2008.
Walt loved his family and the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, gardening, and cheering on his favorite teams: the Chicago White Sox, Bears, and Blackhawks. Walt was a millwright for more than 25 years and a member of the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters Local 1693. He retired in 2002.
A proud Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather, Walt relished time with his family. He was close with his siblings and in-laws, as well as his cousins and many nieces and nephews. He is survived by his wife Peggy R. (nee Kilgallon) Weeden; his children Nancy M. (Tom) Aguirre of Lowell, Indiana, Walter C. "Chuck" (Jennifer) Weeden III of Lansing, Illinois, and Laura (Jim) Doyle of Oswego; 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Janet Goff, Fred (Mary Anne) Weeden, George (JoEllen) Weeden, Phil (Patty) Weeden, Lani Achter, Gilbert Weeden, and Carolyn (Mike) Dornbos.
He was preceded in death by sisters Florence Majewski and Lee Wisniewski.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, March 25, 2021 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the DUNN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME with CREMATORY, 1801 Douglas Road, Oswego, IL 60543.
Funeral prayer service will be held on Friday, March 26, 2021 at 11:30 AM at the Funeral Home.
