Vivian J. Tiemeier, age 98 of Oswego, IL, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at Bickford of Oswego.
She was born January 8, 1924 in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Idus Leton and Georgia M. nee Lawrence Bedingfield.
Vivian was a progressive woman in many ways - wore pants when the other women wore dresses, brought Girl Scouting to her church, and returned to work in the 1960's. She was a poet and an artist, not with pencil or paint, but with needlepoint, embroidery, and beads. After retirement and in their 70's Vivian and Ray worked to incorporate their small Arizona town, and she was one of its first mayors, helping Sahuarita prosper and grow. Vivian and Ray enjoyed traveling the country by motor home.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen (Richard) Hittle and Marcy Kubis, grandchildren Christine VanValkenburgh, Michael (Jayme) Cochran, Tim (Julie) Hittle, Valerie (Balaam) Barajas, Dave Hittle, Mark (Ashley) Hittle, Matt (Jen) Kubis, Stacey (Jon) Jakubiak, great-grandchildren Matthew and Johnathan VanValkenburgh, Zach and Logan Cochran, Casey and Tyler Barajas, Colin, Theo, Vivian, William and Ashton Hittle, Liam and Abigail Jakubiak, Marlowe Kubis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 67 years Ray Tiemeier, daughter Janice Cochran and sister Thelma Hurt, and son-in-law Bob Kubis.
A visitation will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church, 500 Lemont Street, Lemont, IL, 60439 on Thursday, August 25, 2022, at 9:30 a.m. until the service at 10:30 a.m. Procession to Clarendon Hills Cemetery will follow.
