Virginia J
Stahl
Oct 28, 1938 — Oct 14, 2026
Virginia J. Stahl, 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 15, 2026.
Virginia lived a life filled with faith, family, laughter, and adventure. She was incredibly smart, especially with numbers. She was stylish, funny, and independent.
Virginia and her husband, Dale, owned and operated Alberto's, where she made pizzas and kept the books. After they sold the business, they traveled throughout the United States and Canada, exploring the country in their motorhome. They enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and canoeing. Together, they shared more adventures than most people could imagine.
After Dale passed, Virginia continued driving between Arkansas and Illinois on her own, chatting with truckers on her CB radio along the way. She enjoyed Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, George Strait, and Christian music as she "putzed" around the house.
Some of the family's fondest memories were made along the Illinois River. Generations gathered for swimming, boating, waterskiing, and tubing, and the grandkids faced the very real childhood fear of being sucked up by a passing barge.
At the house on Route 30, winter meant sledding, hot chocolate, and Grandma's famous belly button stew. It was actually pasta, but that didn't stop the family from convincing the youngest cousin that Grandma was cooking real belly buttons. There were homemade pizza nights, movie nights, popcorn, and a little Franzia wine or a Manhattan for the adults.
Grandma loved spoiling her family at Christmas. Every gift was thought out, perfectly wrapped, and everyone received more than their fair share. She would always remind us, "If you don't like it, take it back!" Between eating Kringlas and Grandma grabbing the microphone for Christmas karaoke, the holidays were always memorable. Her performances of Patsy Cline's "Crazy" were a family favorite and always made us laugh.
Grandma adored her great-grandchildren and loved spending time with them. At her place in Oswego, she always made sure there were ice cream sandwiches in the freezer for when they stopped by. There were Halloweens spent bundled up in the garage, afternoons watching the great-grandkids swim, and time spent listening to her great-granddaughter play the guitar and sing. In the hospital and rehab center, she enjoyed playing Deal or No Deal with her great-granddaughter.
Just two days before she passed, Virginia told her family that she was at peace. She shared a vision of Dale, with John sitting on his lap as a little boy. We believe that vision brought her comfort as her passing was peaceful and quick.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Vernette Dell; her husband, Dale; and her son, John. She leaves behind her brother, Jim; her daughter, Lori; her son-in-law, Joe; her daughter-in-law, Joan; her grandchildren, Traci, Amie, TJ, and Kelsi; and her great-grandchildren, Alexandria, Kaileigh, Makena, Skylar, Ivory, and Karson, who will carry her love and memory forward.
We will miss her humor, the everyday phone calls, and the prayers she consistently offered for the people she loved.
Though our hearts ache at her absence, we find comfort in knowing that she is now free from pain and resting with Jesus. I imagine Dale and John welcoming her home with a sign that says, "Well butter my butt and call me a biscuit, look who's here."
In keeping with Virginia's wishes, no funeral or memorial service will be held. There will, however, be lots of pizza and Kringlas.
