Timothy James "Tim" McGovern, age 67, of Oswego, Il, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 15, 2017 surrounded by his family and friends at his home. Tim was born October 13, 1949 in Chicago, IL, the son of William J. and Mildred nee Kowiatkowski McGovern.
Tim graduated from Bloom Township High School in Chicago Heights in 1967. He worked 30 years as a supervisor for Lyon Metal in Montgomery, IL and retired in 2009. Tim loved to ride his Harley Davidson and participated in many charity rides like Toys for Tots, The Dorene Knapp Ovarian Cancer Run in which he rode for many years with his daughter, who is an oncology nurse. He loved his annual trips to Sturgis, South Dakota with his friends, especially Tony "Bozo" Marek.
Tim is survived by his mother Mildred Williamson of South Chicago Heights, IL, beloved wife of 45 years Kathleen McGovern of Oswego, IL, loving daughter Amy McGovern of Glendora, CA, grandchildren – who are the light of his life – PFC Bradley Timothy "Babalooey" Phalen, active duty US Marine at Camp Pendleton, San Diego, CA, Hannah Marie "Sweet Pea" Phalen of Glendora, CA, brothers Terrence (Pam) McGovern of AZ, David McGovern of Homewood, IL, sister Carol (Steve Cavanaugh) Gore of FL and many dear friends.
Tim was preceded in death by his father, grandparents, several aunts and uncles and many dear friends.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, January 20, 2017 from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM at DUNN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME with CREMATORY, 1801 S. Douglas Road, Oswego, IL 60543. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Season's Hospice, 2195 West Diehl Road, Naperville, IL 60563. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Navinchandra Dodhia for caring for Tim all these years through his illness. Special thanks to Rush-Copley Medical Center and Season's Hospice for all their support to Tim and his family. We cannot thank our family and friends enough for all the unending love and support.
