Thomas John Schmitz, 76, of Oswego, IL, passed away at Northwestern Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 from neuroendocrine cancer.
Born in Pana, IL, to the late Eugene and Thelma Schmitz, Thomas would develop a lifelong love of the St. Louis Cardinals while attending baseball games with family. He would go on to get his Bachelor's degree from Quincy College and his Master's in Sociology from DePaul University in Chicago.
Thomas was a beloved teacher at A. Vito Martinez, and a valued coach at Bolingbrook High School where he coached boys golf and baseball. When not spending time with his family, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, and watching his favorite sports teams play – the Chicago Bears and the St. Louis Cardinals.
Thomas is survived by his loving wife, Susan, and their three children- Jennifer (Joe) Sperandeo, Thomas John Schmitz Jr., and Julie (Todd) DiMare.
He is also survived by is grandchildren, Matthew (Kyrie), Timothy, Alison, and Ashley Sanders, and his best buddy Gia DiMare. He is also survived by three siblings- his sister, Sr. Sharon Schmitz, and two brothers; Tim and Jim Schmitz.
He is preceded in death by four of his siblings- Bud, Sharon, Joe, and Larry, and his parents.
