Thomas Joseph Cooney, Jr. age 83, of Montgomery, IL, peacefully passed away on Monday, January 29, 2024 at Presence Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago, IL.
He was born December 2, 1940 in Topeka, KS, the son of Thomas Joseph Sr. and Loree nee Brewer Cooney.
Tom proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam Conflict. After his honorable discharge from the military, Tom started his own successful HVAC company, spending years dedicated to his customers and their needs. He was a faithful member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Oswego, IL where he volunteered for masses and was a member of the parish's Knights of Columbus. Tom loved the open roads. He could be found cruising the backroads on his motorcycle on the way to Sturgis for Bike Week or in his Mustang or Camaro on a Sunday drive.
He is survived by his children Kerry (Dan) Kinch, Brian (Julie) Cooney, Erin Archambault, Michael (Stephannie) Cooney, Thomas Cooney, grandchildren Ryan Cooney, Brayden Kinch, Carson, Caden and Colton Cooney, Corey Archambault, Michael Archambault, Grant Cooney, Megan Cooney, Ellen Cooney, Nichole (Jack) Dowding, Tara (Brad) Haines, Dayton (Cassidy Smith) Cooney, great-grandchild Sophia Cooney and sister Sheila (Bob) Jones.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Joyce Cooney and grandson Nolan Kinch.
Visitation will be on Monday, February 5, 2024 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at DUNN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME with CREMATORY, 1801 S. Douglas Road, Oswego, IL 60543.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Anne Catholic Church, 551 Boulder Hill Pass, Oswego, IL 60543.
Burial with full military honors will follow at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Aurora, IL.
