Salene Ann Walper formerly of Oswego, IL was called to her eternal home on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Imperial Grove Pavillion in Chicago, IL Born to Rudy and Lena Schmotzer in Aurora, IL December 17, 1937. Passed away in Chicago, IL Salene married Jack Walper on August 20, 1966 and spent the majority of her life in Oswego until 2011. Salene was preceded in death by her Mother in 1994, her Father in 1998, and her husband Jack in 2000. She is survived by sons Brant (Robin) and grandson Justin of Lander, WY, and Eric (Bree) and grandsons Chase and Devon of Chicago, IL; sister Kathlene (Gary) Pennington of Plano, TX; sisters-in-law Jessie Schillinger, LuAnn Nelson, and Sharon Todd, and brothers-in-law Dennis and Henry, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her four-legged best friend, and favorite companion, Rudy, has been compassionately adopted by her niece, Nancy. Salene graduated from East Aurora High School in 1955, by far, her favorite duty in life was being a mother to her sons. Beyond being a devoted wife and mother, Salene worked for Aurora National Bank. Throughout her career, Salene made many life-long friendships and enjoyed her work. Flowers around her house and garage showed the green thumb she inherited from her beloved grandmother. Before returning to Chicago to spend her final days, Salene had the pleasure of spending time with her beloved sister, Kathlene, and had the opportunity of becoming a native Texan. Thank You to all the friends from Oswego and special neighbors who looked over Salene throughout the progression of her condition. Special Thank You to Rich and Judy Sollinger, Marlene Stiefbold, and JoAnn Mizel for always going the extra mile to care for Salene. Visitation will take place on Saturday, April 16, 2016 from 2:00 PM until the funeral service at 4:00 PM at the DUNN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME with CREMATORY, 1801 S. Douglas Road, Oswego, IL 60543. Interment will take place at Pearce Cemetery in Oswego, IL I lieu of flowers, donations to the American Legion post #675 in Oswego in the honor of Jack and Salene Walper are requested.
