Marlys Joan (Sutton) Rucker, 80, of Sheridan died in her home August 23 surrounded by her family. She was born in Cresco, Iowa on November 6, 1933 to Mabel (Ofstedahl) and Joseph Sutton. She married Al J. Rucker on May 1, 1954 at Assumption Catholic Church in Cresco, Iowa. As a teenager, Marlys worked as an usherette at the movie theater where she and Al met. During her courtship with Al, she worked in his photography studio as a hand photo coloring expert. They moved to Chicago, IL where Marlys worked for International Harvester. Later, they moved to Lamont and then settled in Sheridan, IL where they have resided for the past 54 years. She drove for Community Unit District #2 for 13 years. Through the years Marlys was a member of the Sheridan Women's Club, Sheridan Community Chest, PTA, a room Mom, and Brownie Leader. She is a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church where she served on many committees. She was a loving and devoted mother and wife. Marlys loved gardening, crafts, painting, reading, bowling, golfing, tending to her beautiful flower beds, and most of all spending time with her family. Marlys is survived by her husband, Al, and their three daughters, Krystal (Brad), Eike of Plainfield, IL; Kim (Marc) Turner of Bonita Springs, FL; Karlyn (Jay) Hendrix of Jupiter, FL; six incredible grandchildren, Marc (Leann) Turner II, Ft. Riley, KS; Kara (Joe) Korenic, Thornton, IL; Chad Eike, Ottawa, IL; Samantha (Brett) Killian, Crown Point, IN; Josh Hendrix, West Palm Beach, FL; and Kayla Hendrix, Jupiter, FL; as well as six great-grandchildren, Katie, Hailey, and Zach Turner; Blake and Tyler Johnson, and Kylie Killian; her sister, Darlene Smith of Parkersburg, IA; two sisters in-law, Sarah Sutton of Waterloo, IA, Elaine Sutton of Long Praire, MN and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Tommy, Jerry, Clodus, and Leo Sutton; one sister, Kathleen (Sutton) Dozark. Visitation will be held at the Gabel-Dunn Funeral Home in Sheridan, IL on Wednesday August 27th between 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk IL at noon. Interment will be at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers are Chad Eike, Joshua Hendrix, Joe Korenic and Jacob Wilson Honorary pallbearer is SFC Marc Turner II.
