Roland Kelly Hougham, 91, of Mendota, Illinois, formerly of Downers Grove died Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Heritage Health Care in Mendota.
Roland was born December 14, 1923 to Andrew Jackson Hougham and Margaret (Kelly) Hougham in Berwyn, Illinois. He attended Tilden Tech in Chicago. From there he enlisted in the Infantry and served in the U.S. Army in Africa and Italy. He was wounded during combat in Italy.
He married Ruby White in August 1953. They were residents of Downers Grove for many years. Roland was a member of the First Baptist Church of Downers Grove. Roland worked for the State of Illinois Finance Division as an Inspector. He also was a skilled machine repairman and loved ethnic food and cooking. He always attended the outdoor concerts given by the Naperville Community Band. In retirement he was with the AWANA non-profit of Streamwood, Illinois in the shipping department. Roland was a member of the Disabled Veterans of America, the Aurora chapter D-19. In 2013 he flew to Washington, D.C. as a guest of the Honor Flight. He was associated with the Fox Valley Older Adults of Sandwich, IL.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ruby and his son Randy.
He is survived by his daughter Robin (Jerry) Foster, daughter-law Nancy Hougham, 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and several nieces.
A memorial service was held at the Millington-Newark Cemetery Chapel with Charles Johnson officiating.
