Roger George Liddicoatt, Jr., 88, of Oswego , IL passed away to be with our heavenly Father on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 surrounded by his loved ones. Roger was born March 27, 1933 in Lombard , IL , the son of Roger George Liddicoatt, Sr. and Margaret Frances Fitzgerald. As a young child he and his father were very involved with Boy Scouts and Roger reached the rank of Life Scout. He played football for Hinsdale High School and caddied at the Hinsdale Country Club as a teen. Roger proudly served his country in the Korean War for the U.S. Army Security Agency. He achieved the rank of Sergeant and took on an important responsibility. He was a Morse Code interceptor and spent hours across enemy lines to send information back to his commander. On March 26, 1953, he was wounded and captured, and remained a POW until the Korean Armistice was signed. He was discharged from the Army in 1954. Later in his life, June 2018, he was invited to take the Honor Flight to Washington , DC with his daughter as his guardian. Roger was always a dedicated worker starting with his truck driving responsibilities at Elmhurst Chicago Stone, maintenance manager tasks at Brandywine Association, and most recently helping customers with their construction needs at the Oswego Home Depot. His family was his pride and joy. He loved vacationing together, enjoying many cruises and trips to Florida and Arizona . He enjoyed doing various projects around the house, building doll houses for his great-granddaughters, dancing and golfing. He loved working in the yard and gardening. He is survived by his daughter, Pamela Liddicoatt of Oswego ; two granddaughters, Melanie (Blair) Berg of Plainfield and Tiffany (Joshua) Davis of Batavia; six great-grandchildren, Abigail (10), Dylan (9), Madelyn (8), Cole (6), Katherine (4), and Andrew (2), as well as, his sister Mary Harder of Naperville . He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Margaret Liddicoatt; his significant other, Katherine Liddicoatt; and his brother, George Liddicoatt. Visitation will be on Sunday, January 23, 2022 from 1-3 pm. A Celebration of Life will begin at 3 pm. Both visitation and Celebration will be at St. Mark's Church located at 320 Franklin Street , Geneva , IL 60134 . Military honors by the US Army will be rendered. Roger will always be remembered as a hero and loved by many. He reminded his family to never give up and he lived by those words in each life endeavor of his own.
