Roger L. Calvert, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2025, at the age of 69 years old, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 24, 1955, in Homestead, Florida, Roger lived a life filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community.
Roger was the cherished son of Billy and Patricia (nee Schenk) Calvert, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded by his beloved son, Garnie Rice, whose memory will forever be held close in the hearts of those he left behind.
Roger is survived by his devoted wife, Janet (nee Eggering) Calvert, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership. Four wonderful children: Jeremy Calvert, Amber (Mike) Allen, Jason Calvert, and Spring (Craig) Morgan, 15 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, twin brother Rodney (Terri Lopez), David (Barb), Debra (John) Smith, Butch Calvert and several nieces and nephews all of whom carry forward Roger's legacy of kindness and strength.
Throughout his life, Roger exemplified the values of hard work and dedication. He served his country honorably in the United States Army, embodying the spirit of service and patriotism. After his military service, Roger found his calling as a pipefitter for Local 597, where he spent many years honing his craft.
Roger was more than just a skilled tradesman; he was a man of many passions. He had a profound love for cooking and took great joy in preparing meals for family and friends. He relished the art of conversation, often sharing stories and engaging in discussions about politics as he connected with those around him. His love for gardening was evident, a testament to his nurturing spirit. Roger was also could be found tinkering in his building.
A resident of Sheridan, Illinois, Roger was known for his warm smile and welcoming nature. He had an innate ability to make everyone feel at home and valued, whether it was through a shared meal, a casual chat, or a spirited debate. His love for people was palpable, and his ability to forge deep connections resonated with all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
As we remember Roger, we find comfort in the memories of his laughter, his unwavering support, and his passion for life. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
Gathering of Family and Friends will be held on March 14, 2025, from 4:00 - 6:00 PM at the Gabel-Dunn Funeral Home, 333 W. Church St, Sheridan, IL 60551. Memorial service will begin at 6:00 P.M.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects and celebrate the life of a remarkable man who brought so much joy to those around him.
Roger requested a BBQ be held at a later date to enjoy stories and laughter.
