Rod Faxon, 82, of Oswego, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Seasons Hospice of Naperville. He was born on January 25, 1935 in Waterman, IL.
Rod served his country with great pride as a Corporal with the United States Marine Corps from March 1952 to March 1955. He was a combat veteran in Korea with Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines, serving as a machine gunner in the Korean War.
Back home, Rod was a member of the Aurora Clippers Semi Pro Football Team. He was proud of his years as a leader of the Boy Scouts of America with Troop #1.
Rod was employed at Barber-Greene, Shipman's Garage and Oberweis Dairy. He was employed at St. Rita of Cascia Parish and School for 32 years. During his time at St. Rita, he touched the lives of countless families who looked up to him as a friend, mentor and father figure. He also received many blessings there, first becoming a member of the Catholic faith and then meeting the woman that would eventually become his wife, Rod's beloved "BA". His legacy remains on display throughout the school building with the countless works of art and murals he painted to inspire the students.
He is survived by his adoring family, wife Bette, his son Derrick (Carol) Faxon of Aurora, two daughters Cathleen (John) Bracke of Aurora and Lisa (William) Hyland of Wheaton, sister Charlotte Thompson, six grandchildren, David (Liz) and Matthew Faxon, Katelyn and Tyler Bracke, Aiden and Owen Hyland and 6 great-grandchildren.
Rod was preceded in death by his mother Ileen (Jacobson) Faxon, father Ephraim Iverson, step-father Rodney Faxon, Sr. and brothers Richard and Robert Faxon.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at DUNN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME with CREMATORY, 1801 S. Douglas Road, Oswego, IL 60543. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at 10:00 AM at St. Rita of Cascia Church, 750 W. Old Indian Trail, Aurora, IL, 60506.
