Robert L. Hilliard, 95, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2016 at Symphony Orchard Valley Nursing Home in Aurora. He was born April 20, 1920 in Elmhurst to the late William and Berniere (Laramie) Hilliard. He married Lois Kirkpatrick on January 2, 1943 at Fort Monmouth, NJ and was sent immediately to the European Theater of Operations where he served for 33 months as an officer in the Army Signal Corps. He landed in Normandy on D-Day and went through five campaigns from Omaha Beach to Pilsen Czechoslovakia. After the war, he was the owner and operator of the Aurora Cut Stone Company until his retirement in 1985.
He is survived by his children Michael (Vicki) Hilliard of Canton, SD, Paul (Cheryl) Hilliard of Sugar Grove, Cary (Wendy Emery) Hilliard of Carterville, IL and Sara (Brian) Frickenstein, of Morrison, IL, grandchildren Timothy (Roslynn) Hilliard and Kelly Arce of Canton, SD, Ryan (Rachael) Hilliard of Lexington, KY, Laura (Michael) Luczkiws of Corvallis, Oregon, Emily Ninotta of Bettendorf IA, and Greg (Sarah) Frickenstein of West Des Moines, IA, great grandchildren Emma and Nathaniel Arce, Ethan and Jessica Hilliard, Lena Ninotta and June Hilliard, and several step grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Marjorie Garrett of Yakima, WA.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Lois, his parents and a brother William.
He was a long time member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, Aurora. Private graveside services will be held at a later date.
