Richard Walter Mintel, a professor of biochemistry and classical music recording engineer died on December 11, 2014; he was 76 years old. He was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on May 1, 1938 to Walter Otto Mintel and Frances Wiley Mintel. He is survived by his spouse of 43 years, Judith King Mintel and their daughter, Josephine. He is also survived by his sister, Janice Jack of Minooka, IL, her husband, Don, their daughter Anastasia and his brother, Ralph Mintel of Seattle, WA. Receiving his Ph.D. in biochemistry from The University of Chicago, Mintel also taught there where he earned the Quantrell Award for excellence in undergraduate teaching. He also taught at the Johns Hopkins University Medical School, the University of Virginia and the University of Illinois Medical School. As a recording engineer, Mintel made recordings for Chicago's Music of the Baroque and The Grand Teton Music Festival; He has more than 250 radio broadcast credits and a nationally syndicated radio series on WFMT. He was the producer of several highly acclaimed CDs. A memorial service will be held at Rockefeller Chapel on the Campus of the University of Chicago Sunday, April 12, 2015, 4:00 p.m.
