Richard "Dick" Gipson, 65, of Oswego, passed peacefully from this life on June 7, 2017, at Rush-Copley Hospital while enveloped in the arms of his wife and daughters, from complications developed after suffering a traumatic brain injury caused by a serious fall.
Dick was a long-time employee of Coffman Bros. Truck Sales in Aurora as a parts salesman. Over the years, Dick held part-time jobs as a screen and glass repairman for Ace Hardware, as an umpire for several local softball leagues, as well as a "train" operator at Blackberry Farm in Aurora. He was also an avid collector of political campaign buttons, a loyal White Sox and Bears fan, and a devoted pet parent to his cats, Stewart, Joseph and Douglas. Due to his warm and welcoming personality, Dick enjoyed a constant stream of visitors to his treasured man-cave.
Dick will be missed immensely by his wife of 22 years, Kris Hellberg; his daughters, Mandy Gipson of Yorkville, Rebecca (Stacy) Gipson of LaFayette, IN, and Amie Langus of Montgomery; his sister, Debbie (Joe) Shepherd of Montgomery; nieces Sara Shepherd and Stacy (Ed) Davies, both of Montgomery; as well as his numerous friends.
Preceding Dick were his daughter, Michelle Gipson; his mother and father, Jim and Betty Gipson; and his nephew, Eric Shepherd.
Per his wishes, there will be no formal services. Rather, a party in his memory will be held later this summer.
Donations in Dick's name may be directed to the Aurora Animal Shelter or a pet charity of your choosing.
