Richard Arthur Campbell, 81, of Norway, IL. passed to be with his Lord, Wednesday morning July 4, 2018 at the Alden Debes Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Rockford following a long illness. Richard was born June 4, 1937 in Berwyn, IL. the third child of Arthur & Winnifred (Frink) Campbell. He graduated from Downers Grove High School in 1955 and served in the US Navy Reserves from 1955 till 1963. Apprenticed by his father as a blacksmith, Rick combined artistry and skill with iron working to make hundreds of beautiful wrought iron railings, gates and stairways that can still be seen throughout the Western Suburbs. In 1977, Rick became a believer in Jesus Christ. The Calvary Church in Naperville was his church home and on January 14,1978 he married Anne Latourette. They were blessed with two sons and two daughters. Praying for his family and reading the Bible to them after breakfast were amongst Rick's highest priorities. Farming and carpentry filled the second half of Rick's life. He also enjoyed auto mechanics, bee-keeping, old VW trucks and singing in the church choir. Fox River Lutheran Church became the Campbell's spiritual home when the family moved to a farm near Norway. Following a stoke in 2016, Rick & Anne moved to Rockford to be near their oldest son and his family. Rick was a unique blend of artist, rugged outdoorsman and inventor. He loved God & did his best to follow Him. He will be missed. He is survived by his wife, Anne; his five children, Aaron (Erin) Campbell of Rockford, Mary (Stephen) Schuh of Bloomington, MN, Ruth (Daniel) Flaherty of Kenilworth, William (Meg) Campbell of Grand Rapids, MI., Heather; four grandchildren, Jack Campbell, Owen Flaherty, Maeve Flaherty, Joel Schuh; a sister Cheryl (Dirk Van Tellingen) Quick of Naperville and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Joan Campbell. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 13th at the Gabel-Dunn Funeral Home Ltd. 333 W. US Rt. 52, Sheridan, IL. 60551 with Pastors Kevin Garner and Jeff O'Conner officiating. There will also be a visitation at church 1 hour before service. Interment will be at the Fox River Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Aaron Campbell, William Campbell, Philip Nelson, Larry McClimans, Doug Willet and Lyle Hathorn. Memorials may be directed to the family.
