Lt Col Reuben Frausto, US Air Force, retired, died at Season Hospice on October
16. He was born in Canton, Il, to Jesus and Justina Frausto. They moved to
Aurora when he was 4. The family was part of one settlement of Mexicans who moved to Aurora in the twenties. They took up residence in a "boxcar" camp near the Burlington RR reclamation plant east of McClure Rd. They were employed at this facility. Many of the children from these families went on to be leaders and business people in the Aurora area. A graduate of East Aurora High School, he enlisted in the
Army Air Corp in Dec. 1939. He served in the Pacific Theater with the Third
Photo Reconnaissance Squadron as flight engineer on B29s flying over Japan.
Flying 19 missions, he received, among other awards, the Air Medal with
one Oakleaf cluster. As a reservist in the US Air Force, he was recalled during
the Korean War, flying B36s.After discharge, he stayed in the active reserves
participating in monthly training sessions,retiring as a Lt Col. He held a private
pilot's license.
For many years he was employed as a budget analyst for Chicago Housing
Authority. As a 7 year old, he was given a membership in the Aurora YMCA which
began a life-long commitment to physical fitness. He still exercised regularly when
close to 90.
He is survived by his wife Marianne (Mueller), a daughter Barbara (Robert)
Davey, three sons: Bruce, Keith and Philip. There are four grandchildren: Lauren and
Nolan Frausto, Emma Davey, and Sula Frausto. His sister Esther (Eppy) Orta preceded
him in death. Surviving him is a sister, Estella (Earl) Hardekopf, a brother Richard
and nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family/friends will be held on Sunday, November 8, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the DUNN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME with CREMATORY 1801 Douglas Rd Oswego, IL.
Inurment of the cremains, with military honors, will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, Il Monday, November 9, 2015 at 11:00 AM.
Memorials may be made directed to Waubonsee Community College general
scholarship fund.
