Renell Ekdahl Cozzi peacefully completed her incredible life journey Tuesday, July 4, 2023.

She was born to Samuel Ekdahl and Elsa Heitmann in Chicago, Illinois on November 8, 1928. She grew up during the Great Depression and as a teenager worked for Wrigley Gum Factory making gum for WWII service rations. She graduated from Lindbloom High School in Chicago and later was employed as an operator for "Ma Bell" She met her husband Mathew "Al" Cozzi at the beach in Chicago.

He had just returned from the pacific where he served as a Marine Paratrooper on Bougainville in 1943 and Iwo Jima in 1945 where he was wounded.

They married and had three children Karen (Hal) Campbell, Mathew (Kathy) Cozzi and Cindy Cozzi.

Tragedy came into Renell's life in 1957 when her husband was killed in an accident in Chicago. Now the head of the household, with three small children to raise, she put herself through cosmetology school. She opened a shop in the basement of her home in Midlothian, IL and later moved to Oswego in 1974 when she was employed by the Naperville School District.

Renell had many interests like quilting, wool rug hooking, antiquing, painting. She enjoyed garage sales, flea markets and volunteering. She was a faithful member of St. Lukes Church and the Boulder Hill Antique Club.

Renell was gifted with humor, kindness, creativity, imagination and friendship to all.

She has 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

Renell will be welcomed by her parents, her husband, siblings, great granddaughter and family and friends

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 from 9:30 until the time of the service at 11:00 A.M. at the St. Luke's Church located at 63 Fernwood Road, Montgomery, IL 60538. Private Family burial will take place at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers make donations to St. Luke's Church.
