Raymond E. Bertrang, 85 of Aurora joined his beloved wife Marian in Heaven on Tuesday January 27, 2015. Ray was born on August 16, 1929 in Aurora to Edward Bertrang and Mary Weiss Bertrang. Ray grew up in Aurora and attended Our Lady of Good Counsel School and Church. He graduated from Marmion Military Academy with the class of 1947. Ray served his country during the Korean Conflict in 1948, and was honorably discharged in 1952. After his service he would meet the love of his life Marian Frieders. They were married in August of 1954 and enjoyed the next 39 years together until her passing in 1994. Ray moved his family from Plainfield to Aurora and they joined St. Theresa Church where he served as an usher. Later in 1971 he would move his family to the "The Farm" In Oswego Township where he would reside for the next 41 years. He loved to do farm work while still holding a full time job. Ray was employed 14 years with Austin Western and 30 years for Simpson Electric Co. He enjoyed mowing on his Farm all Cub and caring for the farm and the animals. In Oswego they would join St Anne's Church where Ray served many years as an usher and sang in the choir. Ray was an avid bowler playing 3 times a week. He loved to follow the Chicago Cubs and was always sure they would win it next year. He was a civil war history buff and enjoyed working puzzles, and collecting toy tractors. Ray loved spending time with his large family at gatherings and at their annual Christmas Parties. Ray also was a volunteer for the Aurora Public Library for 10 years, sorting books for the book sale. Ray was preceded in Death by his loving wife Marian, Parents Edward and Mary Bertrang, mother and father in law, Peter and Elizabeth Frieders, Sisters in Law Dolores Frieders, Jeanette Christoffel, Pauline Wackerlin, and Elizabeth Bauman. Brothers in Law Carl Christoffel, Paul Potterman, Eugene Patterson, John Keifer, Henry Bauman , Joe Spalding and Ralph Wakerlin and niece Deborah Frieders. He is survived by his 8 Children. Susan, (Jeffrey) Hoffman , Edward (Lorraine) Bertrang, Catherine (Timothy) Wiesbrook, Mary (Gary) Wagner, Alice (Robert) Weissensel, Ann, (William) Pauley, Peter (Tonya) Bertrang, Joseph(Suzanne) Bertrang, and Special friend Dorothy Scott. His 32 Grandchildren, Angel, Kevin Hoffman. Nicolas Wiesbrook, Bonnie Zastrow, Clare Heberlein, Michael, Sarah, Patrick, Peter, Andrea, Thomas, David and Joseph Wagner. James, John, Joseph, Jacob Weissensel, Elizabeth Jackson, Emily, Andrew and Adam Pauley. Anna, John, Allison, Erin, Gena, Madilyn, Jessica, Bertrang. Isaiah¸Joshua, Kyleigh, and Reneezmay Bertrang. And last but not least his 5 great grandchildren, Preston Borris, Lauren, Abigal, and Dominic Zastrow, and Ella Heberlein,and one on the way. Ray is also survived by in laws, Al and Norma Frieders, Ernie and Mary Frieders, Joe and Patricia Frieders, Rita Keifer, Loretta Spalding, and many nieces and nephews. The Bertrang family would like to thank the staff and friends from The Neighbors Next Door and Compassion Hospice for their loving care of our father. Family, Friends and Neighbors can join us at Dunn Family Funeral Home with Crematory, 1801 Douglas Rd Oswego, IL 60543, Sunday, February 1, 2015 from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. to remember and celebrate Ray's life. A Rosary will be recited a 7pm. Mass of Catholic Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 2 nd at St. Anne's Catholic Church , 551 Boulder Hill Pass, Oswego. Interment will follow at Annunciation Cemetery on Church Rd in Aurora. In lieu of flowers , please make a donation to Ray's favorite charity, St Jude Children's Hospital , 501 St Jude Place , Memphis TN 38105.
