Rafael Ramirez Sr. 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday March 6th. He was born on July 2nd 1937 in El Zape, Durango Mexico. "Papi" as he was affectionately called by all of his grandkids fought many courageous battles against numerous ailments during his later years. Pancreatic cancer ultimately took his life but he fought until the very end. Rafael was an avid Cubs fan who realized his longtime dream of watching his beloved Cubbies win the World Series Championship.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will greatly missed by all who were lucky enough to cross paths with him. He is survived by the great love of his life, his wife of 50 years, Maria Sofia Ramirez. His loving daughter Laura (Ignacio)Ramirez-Nuñez. His sons, Rafael, Jr. (Maritza), Francisco (Alma), Victor (Cindy) and Jesus (Jennifer). Grandchildren, Danielle, Dahlila, Soraya, Alyssa, Issai, Sofia, Elijah, Noah, Jacob and Alivia. His grandchildren brought him great joy and he cherished every minute spent with them. He also leaves behind his loving brothers, Jesus, Amalio, Juan Ignacio and his two sisters, Maria Luisa, Blasita and countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Amalio Ramirez and Hermila Ramirez Ibarra, 2 brothers, Salvador and Heriberto and his beloved sister Sofia.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 10, 2017 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the DUNN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME with CREMATORY, 1801 S. Douglas Rd., Oswego, IL. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday March 11, 2017 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 432 E. Downer Place Aurora, Il 60505. Father Tim Piasecki will officiate. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet cemetery.
