Phyllis Harvey, 99 years of Yorkville, IL died Sunday, May 14, 2023, at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, IL.

She was born July 13, 1923, in Chicago, IL the daughter of the late Phillip P and Edith S (Hess) Geib.

She graduated from high school in Colorado and went to college at Alamosa State. After high school, she worked for Sherwin-Williams paint company as a chemist. This was early in the war, and she worked mixing colors to use on camouflage equipment used in the African desert. While there, a co-worker encouraged her to get her pilot's license. She took flying lessons which took her entire $25.00 a week paycheck. She then joined the Civil Air Patrol and later was awarded the rank of sergeant. She was assigned to Squadron 613-1 at Harlem Airport. In 1944, she took a job with Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Corp in Sand Diego, CA, doing flight research for B-17, B-24, and B-29 bombers. The following year, she moved to Tampa, FL and worked at Drew Field as a civilian with the 327th Army Air Force helping with security clearance and flight plans for pilots guarding the borders against enemy submarines. After the war, she moved back to Chicago, IL where she worked at the American National Bank. She later met her husband, Robert and moved to Oswego, IL where she became a devoted farmer's wife, she volunteered as a room mother, Sunday School teacher, Bible school teacher and director, and a 4-H helper. She was a member of the Wheatland Presbyterian Church, Oswego American Legion Post #675 Auxiliary, managed the cafeteria at Thompson Junior High and Oswego High School and served meals at the Oswego Senior Center.

She is survived by two daughters Nancy Heaton of Yorkville, IL, Carol (Rick) Gardner of Yorkville, IL, a son Scott (Colleen Clarke, fiancée) Harvey of Yorkville, IL, three grandchildren Mike Heaton, Matt (Heidi) Heaton, Bryan Gengler, three great grandchildren Natalie, Jacob and Aiden Heaton, several nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Harvey, two sisters, one brother and son-in-law Steve Heaton.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at the DUNN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME with CREMATORY, 1801 Douglas Road, Oswego, IL. Funeral service will take place on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at 11:00 AM at the Wheatland Presbyterian Church, 11839 S Heggs Road, Plainfield, IL. Cremation will take place followed by interment of the cremains at Wheatland Cemetery in Plainfield, IL. at a later date.
