Phomma Thephavong, age 85, of North Aurora, has passed away peacefully on April 26, 2024.

He was born on October 8, 1938, in Sam Nuea, Laos. He was a firm believer in education. He worked for the local government in Sam Nuea after graduation. He met Boualavone in 1958 and they married within the same year.

In 1980, he escaped the communist regime to Thailand. He had to stay in the refugee camps for three years before he was rejoined by the rest of his family.

On eptember 23, 1983, sponsored by New England Congregational Church, he and his immediate family finally arrived in Aurora, IL U.S.A. Phomma worked at General Mills in 1985 where he worked until 2006 when he retired.

He enjoyed his retirement spending time with his family, helping raise his grandchildren, traveling with his wife, kids, and grandchildren, and working on his vegetable garden. He continued to exercise his mind as an avid newspaper reader following politics, sports, and current events. He loved listening to music, especially watching and listening to his children and grandchildren perform. He was also an active Lao community member serving as an elder counsel to the association.

He was diagnosed with kidney cancer. He continued living life to the fullest never letting the disease impact his quality of life. His appetite started to drastically decline within past few months and lack of energy within the past month. He was surrounded by family during his last days.

Phomma is survived by his wife, Boualavone, four daughters Phouthamaly, Bilavanh (Phouxay), Vonemany, Naddaphone (Brian), and two sons Phanthip ("Dang"), Sonedaophet. Along with seven grandchildren, Diana (Angel), Jeffrey (Judy), Annie (Alex), Nikki, Camron, Carly, Madeleine and eight great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Devon, Alana, Aria, Ariella, Luna, Kai, and Aidan.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 3, 2024, from 4:30 PM until 8:00 PM. At Dunn Family Funeral Home with Crematory 1801 S. Douglas Road Oswego, Il 60543'

A Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 2 PM. Both services will be held at the Funeral Home.

Reception will be held at American Legion Post: 675 located at 19 W Washington St, Oswego, IL 60543.
