Paul W. Ivemeyer, age 82, of Oswego, IL, died Sunday, December 7, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 26, 1932 in Jacksonville, IL, the son of Art and Maude Ivemeyer.
Paul grew up in Aurora and graduated from West Aurora High School in 1950. He married Betty Kline, the love of his life on April 24, 1954 at the First Baptist Church in Aurora, IL. In 1964, Paul and Betty built their home in the county in Oswego, IL. Paul worked for Pfister & Associated Corn Growers for several years. He then joined Northern Illinois Gas Co. in the construction and maintenance department. He was an accomplished welder for 30 years, then a crew leader and retired on April 1, 1992 after 38 years of loyal service. He frequently returned to Northern Illinois Gas Co. to teach at the training center until he was 70.
Paul was an accomplished woodworker, loved the country and was an avid gardener. He was a former member of the Oswego Prairie Church, where he served as a trustee and treasurer for many years. Paul was currently a member of the Church of the Good Shepard in Oswego, IL. Paul served as president of N.W.C.S. Credit Union for many years.
He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Betty Ivemeyer of Oswego, IL, children Don Ivemeyer of Montgomery, IL, Paula (Jim) Ode of Oswego, IL, Jim (Sandi) Ivemeyer of Sandwich, IL, Cindy Joplin of Virginia, Sue (Randy) Chapman of Sandwich, IL, grandchildren Kevin (Marla) Ode, Donny (Erika) Chapman, Kristy (Danny) Hyett, Stephanie (Mike) Mount, Gary Joplin, III, Ryan (Megan) Ivemeyer, Belinda Joplin, great-grandchildren Allison, John, Alexis, Savannah, and Shawn Heyett, Emily and Isabel Ode, Allexis, Alissa, Addelyn and Jackson Chapman and Ary Joplin, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Phyllis A. (Fred) Moody of Turlock, CA.
He will be missed by many for his smile and joking around.
A gathering of family and friends will take place on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 from 1:00 PM until a memorial service at 4:00 PM at the Church of the Good Shepard, 5 W. Washington, Oswego, IL 60543.
