Norma J. Rambow, age 85, originally from Naperville, IL passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on October 30, 2022, at the Reserve at Oswego memory care facility.
She was born November 22, 1936, to the late Raphael and Laura nee Schumacher Raab in Elmhurst, IL.
Norma had one older sister, Blanche. Norma was the granddaughter of the late Henry Schumacher who was the very first mayor of Elmhurst, IL.
Norma was originally offered a job at the FBI right after high school (York, Elmhurst Class of 1954) She and her family had an 8 week trip to Europe so, she had to turn the job down. When she returned, she took at job at Harris Bank in downtown Chicago, IL which is where she met her future husband William A. Rambow (deceased) After dating a short while, they married on May 19, 1956 in Elmhurst, IL. They bought their first home in Westchester, IL and moved to Naperville, IL in 1963 as they outgrew their house with three young boys.
She was involved in her local church for over 50 years. She was the church's treasurer for many years and sang in the choir for 40 years. She was involved with many committees in the church and also was her daughter's girl scout troop leader. Norma was involved in Welcome Wagon when they first moved to Naperville. She enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking and baking from scratch, sewing, knitting and most of all reading. She also played the accordion as a child. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Norma worked as a bookkeeper for three local churches, all at the same time, and later worked as the office manager of Naper North Auto body for many years until her retirement in 1998. After retiring she moved from her Naperville home of 52 years to Oswego, IL to be closer to her daughter and youngest grandchildren. She spent her final 2 years at The Reserve. She lived a long wonderful life and will be greatly missed by many.
Norma is survived by her son William R. Rambow and Bernadette (Skoff) of McLeod, MT, Carl A. Rambow of Queens Creek, AZ, Anthony M. Rambow and Sherry (Cermak) of Oswego, IL and her daughter Betsy J. (Rambow) and Keith R. Konkolewski of Oswego, IL. She is also survived by six grandchildren Courtney (Schroeder), Jamie (Gardels), Ryan Rambow, Cassidy (Smigla), Claire Konkolewski and Kenneth Konkolewski. And three great-grandchildren Payton and Emmitt (Schroeder) and Abby (Gardels)
Norma was preceded in death by her parents Raphael and Laura Raab, her husband William A. Rambow, and her sister Blanche Raab.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, from 10:00 till the time of service at 2:00 P.M. at the DUNN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME with CREMATORY, 1801 South Douglas Road, Oswego, IL
Interment will be on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at 12 noon at Mt. Emblem Cemetery, 529 East Grand Avenue, Elmhurst, IL 60126.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Avenue, 16th Floor
