Nancy C. Rink passed peacefully from this life early Thursday morning, July 7, 2016 at her home. Nancy was born May, 31, 1933 to John F. And Helen (Matlock) Cherry in Aurora, IL and with the exception of her college years, lived her entire life in Oswego. She graduated from Oswego High School with the Class of 1951 and continued her education at Iowa State University, ultimately receiving her Commercial Art degree from Drake University. On November 3, 1956 Nancy married Roger Rink and made their home on the Rink farm where she remained until her passing. Nancy put her education and creative talents to work at All-Steel Equipment Co. until she became a mother to daughter Becky. From then on she became the always involved mom whether designing and hand painting larger-than-life decorations for East View Elementary's Fun Fairs or being the "art lady" where she shared her love of the subject with school children. She was room mother, chaperone, Sunday School teacher, fundraiser and all around supporter of the Oswego band program for many years. Her other passion also revolved around children as leader of the La Menu Modelle 4H Club for 39 years. During those years she spent each summer turning her basement into a sewing clinic where countless girls learned the skills needed to create award-winning garments. Her greatest joy was helping "her girls" learn to sew and succeed in all of their projects and activities.
In addition to her talent for using a sewing machine, Nancy had a gift for repairing them. For nearly 20 years she owned and operated A1 Sewing Machine Service. She especially had a fondness for assisting seniors in their homes so they could continue sewing and quilting. During her spare time, Nancy could be found gardening, freezing or canning the harvest, helping on the farm, quilting or creating craft projects. She was a caregiver by nature and her family was the regularly blessed by her caring ways. Most notably for Roger during his struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. Only seven years after Roger's passing, Nancy was herself diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease and Parkinsonian Dementia. It was through the tireless research, collaboration and advocacy of her friend, neighbor and caregiver Jenny Kurtti that she was able to live an amazingly full life for nearly seven years before God called her to her Eternal rest. Nancy's family will be forever grateful to Jenny, her husband Jerry, Dr. Mark Peterson, and special caregivers from Visiting Angels and Seasons Hospice for affording her the opportunity to live those years to their fullest. Sincere thanks also to family and friends whose visits, calls and acts of love and kindness filled her final weeks with many reminiscences and special memories.
Nancy is survived by her daughter Becky Dhuse and grandson Christopher Dhuse, both of North Aurora, IL, her brother Philip (Holly) Cherry of Oswego, sister Diane (Glenn) Osborn of Lincoln, IL and sister-in-law Elizabeth Cherry also of Oswego as well as 12 nieces and nephews. She joins in Heaven her beloved husband Roger, infant daughter Rita Renee, her parents and brother Donald Cherry.
