Nancy Catherine Carmody (née Samorian) was called to heaven peacefully on November 18, 2023, surrounded in love by family. 'Grandma' Nancy was a devoted and loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great grandmother. She had a kind and compassionate soul and was genuinely loved by all. She was an accomplished artist, crafter, and seamstress, with much of her original work decorating her home.

Nancy was born in Rockford, Illinois on August 15, 1940, the youngest of four children. She graduated from Rockford East High School where she was a cheerleader. She earned a degree in education from Northern Illinois University and returned to Rockford to begin her teaching career at the elementary school she attended. Nancy met the love of her life, Dave Carmody, in 1962 and married the same year. Marriage took Nancy and Dave from Rockford to Dixon, Illinois then to Ohio, Maryland, and ultimately to Oswego, which they called home in 1977. Nancy was a highly regarded elementary school teacher in the East Aurora School District 131, spending most of her career at Bardwell Elementary. Nancy and Dave were active members of St. Anne Catholic Church in Oswego. They loved to play cards with friends and travel together, visiting all 50 states and many countries throughout the world. They also loved to spend winters in Florida, where they owned a vacation home, where they regularly entertained and welcomed family and friends.

Nancy and Dave raised five boys, by whom they are survived: Dave Carmody of Chicago; Mike (Laura) Carmody of Fort Wayne, Indiana; Pat (Amy) Carmody of Oswego; Don (Julie) Carmody of Montgomery; and Steve (Marta Macé) Carmody of Tacoma, Washington. Nancy is also survived by her sister; Marge Bauch of Pecatonica, Illinois; brother, Jim Samorian of Rockford, Illinois; 10 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Kate Samorian; her husband of 60 years, Dave Carmody; and her brother, Harold Samorian.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, from 4 to 8pm at Dunn Family Funeral Home with Crematory, 1801 Douglas Road, Oswego, IL.
