Mildred Rowena Bernard, 91, of Sheridan died Friday, April 3, 2015 at Pleasant View Luther Home. Rowena was born November 14, 1923 in Freedom Twp. LaSalle Co. to Elbert & Hazel (Shaw) Wiley. She married Lester William Bernard March 31, 1946 at the Harding United Methodist Church. Lester passed February 1, 1991. She was a member of the Sheridan United Methodist Church, the Women of the United Methodist Church and the Starved Rock Audubon Society. She had been a substitute mail carrier at the Sheridan Post Office for 17 years and was active with the Fox Valley Older Adults Services, church activities and community programs and projects. She is survived by her two sons, Ronald (Jody) Bernard of Marseilles, Raymond (Susan) Bernard of Rochelle; her three grand daughters, Cheryl (Jason) Stewart of Mendota, Sarah Bernard of Rochelle, Bethany Bernard of Aurora; six great grandchildren and a brother, Glenn (Marge) Wiley of Lisle. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester and a sister, Margaret Wiley-Bauer. Visitation will be held from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 6th followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Hyo-Sun Oh officiating at the Gabel-Dunn Funeral Home Ltd in Sheridan. Interment will be at the Elerding Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robert Bauer, Roland Bauer, Bradley Newell, Jason Stewart, Jeff Bernard and Pam Harshbarger.
