OBITUARY WAS LOVINGLY WRITTEN BY HIS FAMILY,
Michael E. Schnable, age 73 of Aurora, IL, died on Tuesday, March 21, 2023. Mike had a peaceful passing at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 21, 1949, in Evanston, IL.
Mike was first and foremost a family man. He taught at Traughber Junior High and coached at Oswego High School before retiring in 2007. He loved his students and athletes and all the teachers and coaches he worked with. Mike was inducted into the Oswego High School Legacy Wall in 2021. Mike is also in the Oswego High School Athletic Department Hall of Fame as well as the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Mike is survived by his wife and best friend of 8 years, Cathy, a long-time teacher in the Oswego schools; two sons, Kevin (Dina) Schnable of Plainfield, IL, and Mark (Jenni) Schnable of Fishers, IN; daughter, Kelly (Michael) Epley of Montgomery, IL; stepson, David (Sarah) Hunt of Wheaton, IL; stepdaughter, Tanya (Matt) Wiskur of Montgomery, IL; eleven grandchildren: Kara and Eric Schnable, Trent and Blake Epley, Makenna and Luke Schnable, Sawyer, Sophia, and Harrison Hunt, and Atticus and Tatum Wiskur.
Mike was preceded in death by his first love of his life of 42 years, Cathy, an early childhood educator in the Oswego schools.
A private visitation is set for Sunday, March 26, 2023 at Dunn Family Funeral Home with Crematory. A private burial will take place at Pearce Cemetery in Oswego, IL.
A separate Celebration of Life will take place at his home golf course, Christina's Grill and Gatherings at Fox Bend Golf Course, on Saturday, April 8, 2023, from 2:00-10:00 p.m. This is the Saturday of the Masters, "A tradition unlike any other." We will have the tournament on TV screens and request that you wear "Augusta Green" or your favorite golf polo to honor Mike. Mike really wanted and deserves a Celebration of Life; please join us as we celebrate and honor "The Man, The Myth, The Legend." Family members will speak words of remembrance at 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family is working on a scholarship fund with Oswego High School where he bled orange and blue. "Once a Panther, Always a Panther!"
