Melvin Arthur Ruhl, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away on August 5, 2026, at the Pearl at the Tillers in Oswego. Born on March 15, 1937, in Hannibal, Missouri, Melvin was the son of William Arthur Ruhl and Melvina Bittleston.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers David and James, and his sisters Alice Swank and Dorothy Mastin. Melvin was a devoted husband to Lena Webb Ruhl, with whom he shared 63 wonderful years. Their partnership was a testament to enduring love and companionship. Together, they raised two daughters, Tammy (Keith Anderson) and Janet (Ted Carski) Ruhl, who carry forward his legacy of kindness and integrity.

Melvin was a proud veteran, having served his country with honor in the US Army. After his military service, he embarked on a long and fulfilling career with Caterpillar Tractor Company, dedicating 37 years as an engineer.

His passion for engineering was matched only by his enthusiasm for life and the many hobbies he pursued. A true enthusiast of machinery and history, Melvin delighted in road trips, old threshers, tractors, trains, planes, and the classic cars of the 50s and 60s. His love for these marvels of engineering was well-known among friends and family. Melvin also treasured the camaraderie of his Caterpillar breakfasts, where stories and laughter were shared. Melvin was a gifted storyteller with a remarkable ability to bring tales to life, captivating those around him with his wit and wisdom.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, daughters and sons-in-law, his sisters Mary Miller and Margaret Botkin, and many nieces and nephews, honorary nieces and nephews and his long-time best friends of over 60 years, Connie and the late Earl Worley.

Melvin's life was a testament to love, dedication, and joy. He touched the hearts of many and leaves behind a legacy of treasured memories and stories that will be cherished by all who knew him.
