Melissa Marie Matile, 52, of Aurora died of natural causes at her home on Tuesday, September 11, 2018. She was born June 27, 1966 at the old Copley Memorial Hospital in Aurora.
She is survived by her parents, Roger and Sue (Musselman) Matile of Oswego; one brother, Nathaniel (Wendy) Matile of Oswego; a niece and a nephew, Matthew and Julia Matile of Oswego; two aunts, Elaine Lieser of Tipton, IA and Mrs. William (Beth) Vickery of Oswego; and by numerous cousins in her extended family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence (Sylvia) Matile of Oswego; her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William (Winifred) Musselman of Fergus Falls, MN; and three aunts, Eileen (Matile) Bacino and by two aunts in infancy.
Melissa was a 1984 graduate of Oswego High School, where she was a National Merit Scholarship Finalist. She graduated from Illinois State University in 1988 with a degree in English. She worked as a corporate software trainer, database developer, and most recently in corporate web development and maintenance. She had a lifelong love of entertaining people, participating in high school drama and music and sang with several local bands. After reading Madeleine L'Engle's A Wrinkle in Time as a child, she became a passionate fan and collector of science fiction and fantasy. She was a happy companion for her three cats Janis, Jimmy, and Johnny. Melissa was a loyal Chicago Cubs fan, thanks to her Grandpa Matile, and was a faithful, if not always happy, Chicago Bears fan. She will be greatly missed by her large circle of friends, her immediate and extended family, and especially her beloved niece and nephew.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, September 17, 2018 at DUNN FAMIL FUNERAL HOME with CREMATORY, 1801 S. Douglas Road, Oswego, IL 60543. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at the funeral home with cremation to follow.
