Mary Ellen Manning (Sis), 87, of Oswego, IL, passed due to natural causes on Thursday, November 30, 2017, at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, IL.
Mary was born to John and Mary Smith on March 3, 1930 in St. Louis, MO,, but largely raised as a "country girl", a point of pride for the loving, giving person she was throughout her life. This loving and generous nature was a foundation of her life no matter who was involved: her children/grandchildren, siblings, nieces/nephews, friends, or strangers. She had a reserved place in her heart for the special needs children she cared for through many years as a bus driver for Elgin School District U-46.
She is survived by her children: Vincent (Mark) Rooney, Lynne Rooney-Katsma, Lisa Rooney, Kevin Rooney and Scott Manning. She also is survived by her sister, Shirley (Sha) Gibson, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews who knew her as a "second Mom" for the family. She was preceded in death by her parents, eight of her nine siblings, a daughter (Jill), and her second husband, Robert Louis Manning.
Her genuine way of loving and always supporting others will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be held at Dunn Family Funeral Home with Crematory, 1801 S. Douglas Rd., Oswego, IL, on Friday, December 8, 2017 from 4 to 8 p.m. additional visitation on Saturday, December 9, from 9 a.m. until a funeral service at 11 a.m.
