Marvin LeRoy Lawyer, 91, of Newark passed Saturday morning, May 28, 2016 at the Illinois Veterans Home in LaSalle. Marvin was born December 31, 1924 in Sugar Grove to James & May (Trish) Lawyer. He married Stella J. Berkland December 7, 1947 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Morris. Stella passed October 25, 2003. He attended the Inscho Grade School, a single room grade school in Yorkville, and later lived in the building after it was converted to a family home. He was a 1943 graduate of Yorkville High School. He entered the US Army in 1943 and served in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and central Europe before receiving his honorable discharge in 1945. He was a member of the Helmar Lutheran Church, and a member of Kendall Co. VFW Post #8234. He had farmed in Kendall Co. and had also served as a postal clerk at the Aurora Post Office for 30 years. Marvin had been a school bus driver for Kendall Co. Schools for 43 ½ years. He owned and operated the Crossroads Bookstore in Newark, the Little Stones Rock Shop in Newark and the Newark Laundromat. He will always be remembered for his love of rocks and the creations he & Stella made from them. He is survived by two sons, Gerald (Ruth) Lawyer of Baldwin, IA, Donald (Fleda) Lawyer of Silver City, NM, two daughters, Ruth Lawyer of Maple Grove, MN, Virginia (Terry) Howe of Kewanee, IL; three grandsons, Chad Barth, Peter Barth, Casey Lawyer; a granddaughter, Sarah Barth; three great grandchildren, Kelly Barth, Bailey Lawyer, Ellie May Lawyer and several step grand & step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Stella. Visitation will be held from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at the Helmar Lutheran Church, 11935 Lisbon Rd. Newark, 60541. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. with Pastor James Molstre officiating and interment will then be held at the Aux Sable Grove Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers will be Chad Barth, Peter Barth, Casey Lawyer, Michael Berkland, Howard Rosenwinkel and Scott Zeal. Honorary pallbearers will be Clyde Borneman, Wayne Borneman, Glenn Borneman, Bob Martner, Virgil Lipold and Howard Christian. Memorials may be directed to the Helmar Lutheran Church Library Fund.
