Obituary

Listen to Obituary

Marian O. "Orrie" Bristol, age 93, of Geneva, IL, formerly of Sheridan, IL, peacefully passed away September 27, 2026. She was born in Wedron, IL to the late Russell and Ione nee McMichael Stangeland.

Marian graduated from Serena High School in 1950 and Ryburn-King school of nursing in 1953. Most of her career was spent in Ottawa and Sandwich hospitals in the Labor & Delivery unit. October 24, 1954 she married her beloved husband James H. Bristol whom she helped run their grocery store "Bristol's Bi-Rite" in Sheridan, IL. Taking care of the store allowed Marian to connect with her community and that commitment to her neighbors followed into her later years when she devoted herself massively to Sheridan United Methodist Church. Marian regularly volunteered with the church and was a member of the United Methodist Women's group. She had other passions such as reading, playing cards and traveling. Marian, commonly known as Orrie, will be dearly missed by all those who had the fortune of knowing her. Together with her husband Marian will be buried on their wedding anniversary, allowing them to be in union on that special day once more.

Marian is survived by her children Brad (Diane) Bristol, Beth Kotz, Amy (William) Palmer, and Marc (Tracy) Bristol, fourteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and brother David Stangeland. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband James Bristol, brother Merle Stangeland, and son-in-law Robert Kotz.

A memorial gathering will take place Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 11:00 AM until time of service at 12:30 PM at the Sheridan United Methodist Church 219 S. Bushnell St., Sheridan, IL. Following the service, she will be buried at Sheridan Cemetery, in Sheridan, IL.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Gabel-Dunn Funeral Home, 333 W. Church Street, Sheridan, IL 60551. For inforamtion: 630/554-3888 or www.dunnfamilyfuneralhome.com
