Madeline Elaine Rowe Mead, 92, of Yorkville, IL, passed away peacefully at home on February 13, 2022. She was born at home on the Advent Christian Campgrounds in Mechanic Falls, Maine in 1929 to Rev. Linwood Abbot Wilder Rowe and Elsie Clarise (Strout) Rowe. Madeline was a highly educated woman- following her graduation from Whitman High School in Whitman, MA, she attended the New England School of Theology, and then graduated from Aurora University with her B.A. in 1953 before going on to Northern Illinois University where she attained her M.S. in Education in 1961. She was passionate about teaching- having taught English and speech at Yorkville schools for 25 years and speech, English, and drama for 12 years at Mooseheart schools. She was a member of many professional organizations, such as the National Council Teachers of English, a lifetime member of the National Educational Association, a member of the Kendall County Retired Teachers, and Yorkville Foxy Red Hatters. She is survived by her beloved children, Victor Linwood (Sharon) Mead, Vance Eliot (Julie) Mead, and Valarie Elaine (Ray) Epperson. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Jessica Mead Ryan, Jared Mead, Caitlin Mead Zimmer, Cassidy Mead, Camryn Mead, Carlisle Mead, Madeline Epperson Harn, Victor Epperson, Jannea Epperson Thomason. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren, Caleb, Emory, and Aniston Ryan, Remember Zimmer, Ethan and Wyatt Black, Maddox Harn, Amos, Joah, Zeke and Silas Epperson and Benjamin Thomason. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022, from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at Advent Christian Church 905 N Edgelawn Dr, Aurora, IL 60506, with a funeral service starting at 12:00 P.M.
