Mabel Jewel Sexton, age 96, of Sheridan died Friday October 13, 2023 at Sandwich Rehab and Health Care Center in Sandwich, IL.

Mabel was born March 4, 1927 in Whitstone, Kentucky to Duff and Mamie (Dickens) Smith. She married Lester Ray Sexton Sr. January 3, 1947. Lester passed June 28, 2006. She had worked for many years at Sandwich Community Hospital before retiring in 1990.

She is survived by her two daughters, Jewel Ann (Gene) Britt of Sheridan, Anita (Sherman) Raines of Norway; her two sons, David Earl (Sharon) Sexton of Sheridan, Lester Ray (Liz) Sexton Jr. of Norway; 7 grandchildren; 5-step grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester Sexton Sr.; five brothers, Gobel Smith, Bill Smith, Ray-Dean Smith, Cecil Smith, Reed Smith and a sister in infancy Freed Smith.

Private family service will be on Thursday, October 19, 2023, 1:00 p.m. at Gabel Dunn Funeral Home Ltd, 333 W. Church St., Sheridan, IL. with Pastor Marcos Schwantes officiating.

Interment will be at Elerding Cemetery.
