Lucille M. Plachetka, of Oswego, Illinois, and Fort Myers, Florida, passed away Sunday, July 30, 2017, at her home in Oswego. She was born December 6, 1930 to the late Steven and Mae (Havorka) Firlick in Berwyn, Illinois. Lucille was a graduate of Nazareth Academy in LaGrange Park, Illinois, received a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Aurora College in Aurora, Illinois, a Master's degree in Education Curriculum Supervision from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois, and completed post-graduate work in Curriculum Design from the University of South Florida in Fort Myers, Florida. She began her teaching career at St. Joseph's School in Aurora, Illinois in 1973 and after relocating to Fort Myers, Florida in 1984, Lucille taught at St. Francis Xavier School until 1995. She returned to Illinois was appointed Assistant Principal, and later Principal, at Our Lady of Good Counsel School (where all six of her children attended) in Aurora, Illinois. Lucille most recently was a volunteer at St. Peter's Catholic School in Aurora, Illinois. She also served on the executive board of the New Approach Condominium Association in Fort Myers, Florida. Lucille is survived by her children: Judith Plachetka (Mari Bernhardt), Richard (Dr. Beth) Plachetka, Dr. John (Clare) Plachetka, Joan (Gary) Horneman, Patricia (Ricky) Mason, and Therese (Steve) Nelson; her grandchildren: Pam Penney, Kristin (Victor) Perez, and Michael (Gabrielle) Plachetka; Anne (Ryan) Smith, Amy Plachetka, and Kathleen Plachetka; Timothy Horneman, Julie (Eugenio) Ballone, Jill (Vicente) Fernandez, and Mark Horneman; Carrie (Gerald) West and Robin (Nicholas) Watgen; Nicholas (Jennifer) DeClerk, Jessica (Daniel) Ehmann, and Catherine DeClerk, and 21 great grandchildren and one great grandson due in August. Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; three brothers, Edmund, Leonard, and John; and one sister, Dorothy Verdak. Our family would like to extend our love and appreciation to Lucille's home care professionals, Nina and Jolita, for the comfort and care extended to our mom and our family. It will be remembered forever. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at DUNN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME with CREMATORY, 1801 S. Douglas Road, Oswego, Illinois, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 p.m. Prayer Service will be held at 5 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on August 3, 2017 at St. Peter Catholic Church, 925 Sard Avenue, Aurora, with Reverend Joachim Tyrtania officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Aurora. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The American Cancer Society, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, or St. Peter Catholic Church in Aurora.
