Lloyd C. Spencer Sr. was born in Pocahontas County near Fonda, IA on August 23, 1916 to Jesse and Ellen (Carlson) Spencer. He passed away on December 7, 2016 in Yorkville, IL. On September 14, 1937 he was united in marriage with Mildred E. Hout, daughter of Carl and Anna Hout. They farmed a few years until founding Spencer Electric, Plumbing, and Heating. In 1957 the family moved to Illinois where Lloyd became a member of Local 461 Electrical Union of Aurora, IL and they founded DeArts Kennel in Oswego. He was a charter member and past president of the Kennel Club of Yorkville, a member of the Fox Valley Dog Training Club and the Irish Water Spaniel Club of America where he served as past president and delegate to the American Kennel Club. Upon retirement, Lloyd and Mildred moved to Arkansas where he was a member and past resident of the Cherokee Indians Lions Club and was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow award. He was president of Friends of Homeless Animals. He was animal control officer for Cherokee Village. In 2009 he moved back Illinois residing at Heritage Woods Apartments of Yorkville. He was a member Little Rock Odd Fellows Lodge 171. He was also a member of the Raven Mason lodge No. 303 in Oswego, IL. He is survived by three children, Vera (William) Murphy, Dauna (Edward) Boon, and Bobbie (Susanne) Spencer, daughter-in-law Katherine Spencer, twelve grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren, one sister, Marguerite Wile of Sylvania, Ohio two in-laws, Darlene Nyren of Gowrie, IA, and Dorothy Hout of Sac City, IA. Preceding him in death were his wife, Mildred E. Spencer, his parents Jesse and Ellen Spencer, sons Lloyd C. Spencer Jr. and Colin Spencer Sr., two grandsons Edward Boon Jr. and Colin Spencer Jr., six brothers-in-law, four sisters-in-law and daughter-in-law Mary Spencer. Cremation to be accorded as his wish with burial in Lincoln Memorial Park. Memorials may be directed to Trinity United Methodist Church, 2505 Boomer Lane, Yorkville, IL. 60560. Funeral Arrangements are entrusted to Dunn Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 1801 South Douglas Road, Oswego, IL. For information call 630-554-3888.
