Kurt R. Thorsen, age 33, of Oswego, IL died unexpectedly but peacefully at home on January 13, 2022. Kurt was born on November 7, 1988 to Robert and Jane Thorsen. Kurt graduated from Oswego High School (Class of 2007). Following graduation, Kurt attended the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, where he graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology. During his time in Champaign, Kurt was employed as a videographer for the Fighting Illini Football team and had fond memories of traveling with the team to the 2010 Sugar Bowl in Houston, TX. Kurt furthered his education by receiving a Master's Degree in Counseling from Concordia University. While incorporating all of his learnings from higher education, Kurt thoughtfully chose a career in sales, where he became very successful and knowledgeable in the wine, beer, and liquor industry. Before his passing, Kurt was employed by Breakthru Beverages in Chicago, IL. Kurt was known by his family and friends as being loving, thoughtful and deeply introspective. His ability to see the bigger picture and always focus on what's most important in life, often challenging the status quo, is what made Kurt's presence truly special and unique. A bike ride or walk through Silver Springs forest preserve in Yorkville, IL were some of his favorite ways to connect with nature and spend quality time with his family. Kurt's family will deeply miss the quiet nights spent at home together or celebrating holidays with football, good food & wine, and Kurt's calm, quick-witted company. Kurt is survived by his parents, Robert and Jane (May) Thorsen; brother, William (Bill) Stapleton; sister, Heather Thorsen (Josh Gruettner); his much-loved family dogs: Lily, Brody, and Lavender, as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Kurt was preceded in death by his grandparents Robert & Ruth May, Leo & Ilene Thorsen, and uncle Robert C. May. A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 22nd from 10am-12:30pm, immediately followed by a service at Dunn Funeral Home at 1801 S. Douglas Road in Oswego, IL. Kurt will later be laid to rest at the Oswego Township Cemetery, down the street from his childhood home. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in Kurt's memory to PAWS Chicago, located at 1997 N. Clybourn Avenue, Chicago, IL 60614. For information www.dunnfamilyfuneralhome.com or 630-554-3888.
