Our beloved mother and grandmother, Karen Lea Nissen, passed away at Accentcare Hospice in Naperville, IL. on October 23, 2024, She was 78.

Karen was the heart of our home and family. She raised Michelle in a happy and loving home full of every opportunity she could offer. Karen was married for 57 years to her dedicated husband Bob, who preceded her in death, March 2024. She cherished her three grandchildren, Zach, Taylor and Emma. She especially enjoyed hosting them at her lake house, where she could spoil them and send them home with her little pocket treats. Her grandkids adored their Grandma and will forever miss her warmth and love.

Karen was known for her quick wit and warm smile. Her happiest days were filled with family, friends and traveling the world. She had a gift of giving the most personal gifts wrapped with such love and care it made you feel special. At Karen's request, there will be no services, but she would want us all to cheer at 5 o'clock with an E&J brandy and coke, in celebration of her life well lived.

Karen Nissen is survived by a daughter: Michelle Stavrou and son in law Chad Stavrou of Warrenville, IL; three grandchildren: Zachery, Taylor and Emma; two great-grandchildren: Carson and Cameron and two siblings:Janice Wilson and Keith Brethorst. Preceded in death by parents Raymond and Velma (Langhoff) Brethorst. Husband Robert Nissen, Brother Eugene Brethorst and Sister Gennean Reardon.
