Judy Louise Malnick, 63, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Rush-Copley Medical Center Monday, December 8, 2014, after a 3.5 year battle with primary peritoneal cancer. Judy was born November 9, 1951, in Mitchell, South Dakota to Rudy and Roselyn Fiala. She attended Dakota State College in Madison, SD where she received an associate's degree and learned shorthand. She also began working in the secretarial field as the assistant secretary to the college president. From there, she moved to Omaha, NE where she met her husband, Greg Malnick, and worked for the Equitable Life Assurance Society. Next, she moved to Montgomery, IL with Greg, in 1977. In 1985 Judy volunteered and eventually worked as a clerical aid for Boulder Hill Elementary School. When Old Post Elementary opened she accepted the position of Secretary for the Principal. During her time at Old Post she was awarded the OSD #308 Little White School House Distinguished Service to the Students award and the PTA Lifetime Achievement Award. Judy was incredibly proud of her school, her work, and of the fact that "shorthand was in short supply." Judy retired from the Oswego School District in 2014. In addition to her public service Judy served as a Eucharistic minister at St. Anne's Catholic Church and prepared food for PADS Homeless Shelter in Aurora. Judy is survived by her husband, Greg Malnick; her sons, Nicolaus (Gabrielle Stormo) Malnick and Aaron Malnick; her adoring and adored grandchildren Asher and Audrey Stormo Malnick. Her brother, Frank (Kay) Fiala; Sister, Joanne (John) Metz. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Sharon (Tom) Tidd. Judy was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be remembered for her loving, warm, and incredibly positive personality. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am Friday, December 12, 2014 at St. Anne's Catholic Church, 551 Boulder Hill Pass, Oswego, IL.
