Judson Hewes Peter, 90 years old, died peacefully on May 9th, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family. Judd, the son of Gerald and Lucille (Hewes) Peter, was born November 22, 1933 in Chicago Heights Illinois. He graduated from Thornton High School in 1951. He attended Thornton Junior College for 2 years, finishing his BA in Business from Valparaiso University in 1955. He was united in marriage to the love of his life Kay Peter (nee Duncan) in 1956. He served in active duty for the United States Navy as a commissioned officer. After leaving the Navy he was employed at Northern Illinois Gas/Nicor for 35 years, retiring in 1993. He served on the Oswego Community School District 308 Board of Education, as well other civic organizations. Judd and Kay loved and served their Lord by being members of Neighborhood Church in Boulder Hill since the early 1960's. He remained active in serving our Lord Jesus Christ throughout his time there serving in many roles, moderator, treasurer etc. He was also very active in the Way of Christ movement. He served the Church of the Brethren denomination on the Annual Conference Standing Committee and on the Illinois Wisconsin District Board and on the Illinois Wisconsin District New Church Development Committee and on the board of directors for the Lombard Mennonite Peace Center. He was foremost a family man.

He and his wife, Kay, were blessed with four children, thirteen grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren. Surviving him are his wife of 67 years Kay Peter, and children Jeff (Vickie) Peter, Becky (Gregg) Newhuis, Randy (Sharon) Peter, Tim (Phyllis) Peter, grandchildren Craig (Jamie Hansen) Peter, Joshua (Ashley) Peter, Justin (Kristen) Newhuis, Chris (Molly) Newhuis, David (Magen) Peter, Andrea Peter, Renee (Joshua) Kosters, Lauren (Joshua) Buffum, Aaron (Emily Tosoni) Peter, Reese (Britney Folino) Peter, Rachel (Nick) Guzman and Caleb Peter; great grandchildren Madison Peter, Kayla Peter, Marleigh Garcia, Emma Pike , Remington Peter, Lulu Peter, Harlan Newhuis, Brooks Newhuis, Caleb Buffum, Micah Buffum, Norah Peter, Riley Kosters, Jackson Kosters, Henry Kosters, Vada Peter, Eden Peter, Isla Peter and Naomi Guzman.

He was preceded in death by his parents Gerald and Lucille Peter, a brother Donald Peter, a nephew Greg Peter, and a grandson Jason Peter.

There will be a Memorial Gathering Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. with a Memorial Service following at 12:00 p.m. at the Neighborhood Church, 155 Boulder Hill Pass, Montgomery IL, 60538

Memorials in his name may be given to the Neighborhood Church.

Cremation Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of the DUNN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME with CREMATORY.
