Judith Reed (née Kimbel), age 80, of Oswego, Illinois, was called home to the Lord on January 24, 2026.
She was born on January 22, 1946, in South Bend, Indiana, to Marie (née Walsh) and Delmer Kimbel. Judy was united in marriage to her beloved husband, Colin Reed, for 45 years. They shared a life rooted in love of family and were rarely apart. He preceded her in death in 2020.
A devout Catholic, Judy was a member of St. Anne's Parish in Oswego and a graduate of Saint Joseph High School in South Bend. She was deeply connected to her faith, carrying her finger Rosary with her everywhere, and living her faith daily.
Judy was a member of the Morton Arboretum for over 25 years, where she loved spending time with her husband meandering through the Joy Path's meadows and woodlands and exploring the Children's Garden with her grandchildren, watching tadpoles, and enjoying chili in the café before heading home to play Dominoes and Sequence. She also spent many vacations at her and Colin's favorite retreat, Lakelawn, relaxing and basking in each other's company. She loved taking the "long way," driving through farmlands and small towns with Colin, sometimes antiquing and finding a cozy spot for coffee.
After Colin's death, Judy continued to find joy in small trips with Teresa, where she found peace and happiness in quiet moments and could let go of her worries.
Judy was a fiercely competitive Bridge player known for her exemplary memory. She was an active member of several book clubs, spearheaded a women's investment club, managed a neighborhood Christmas giving program for several years and volunteered with Meals on Wheels. She held a fervent love of old Irish songs, a connection she cherished in honor of her mother and grandmother, and instilled in Lisa as a child over many long car trips to Indiana.
Judy is survived by her loving daughter, Lisa Keaton (Jonathan), whom she raised as her own from the age of six; her dear stepchildren, Teresa Brown (Craig), Kevin Reed (Paula), Colin "Roddy" Reed Jr. (Christine), and Kathleen Hurst (Steve); her brother, Richard Kimbel (Mary); her sister, Hope Daniel; her nieces and nephews, Rick & JoAnn Kimbel, Kimberly Chrisman, Nicole Aquila, Renee Brady, and Richard Kimbel III; as well as ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 1st at 10:00 AM at St. Matthew's Cathedral in South Bend, Indiana. Interment will follow at Southlawn Cemetery. Cremation arrangements are under the personal care of DUNN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME with CREMATORY 1801 South Douglas Road, Oswego, IL. 60543.
