John Robert Schmitz, Sr., 78, of Montgomery, IL, passed to eternal life on March 21st, 2022. He passed with his wishes of being in his home surrounded by his loving children after his battle with colon and liver cancer. John was born at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Aurora, IL on January 22nd, 1944 to Alfred and Inez Schmitz. John graduated from Marmion Military Academy in May of 1962. He went on to graduate from the School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Upon completion, he worked at Aurora National Bank for 25 years. After that he went on to the Kane County Treasurers Office for 20 plus years. He and his beautiful wife later retired in 2013. His wife and children were his whole world. John had such a love of sports. He coached Sugar 'n' Spice softball for all three of his daughters. He loved taking his son and sons-in-law golfing. His absolute true love was bowling. He bowled in a league with his son for years and continued to bowl four nights a week. John was inducted into the Aurora Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 2004. He was loved and respected by more friends than he ever could have imagined! John is survived by his children, John (Dolly) Schmitz Jr. of Aurora, IL, Jeris (Robert) Schmitz of IN, Jessica (Carlos) Mata of Montgomery, IL, son-in-law Chris (Mary) Lehnert of Frankfort, IL; his six loving grandchildren, Kahla Hoffman, Sydney Lehnert, James and Mason Rozell, and Madison and Devin Mata; his sister, Mary (Schmitz) Loosbrock of MN; sisters-in-law, Judy (Harry) Buck and Marylou Ward; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. John was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Jaunita; his eldest daughter, Jeanette (Schmitz) Lehnert; his mother and father, Alfred and Inez Schmitz; his father-in-law, Manuel Ward; brothers-in-law Gene Ward and Leo Loosbrock; and a niece, Marybeth Buck (Vetter).
