John S. McGrath, age 83, of Newark, IL, passed away Friday, February 18, 2021 at Edward Hospital in Naperville, IL. He was born June 16, 1937 in Chicago, IL, the son of John J. and Gertrude nee Bay McGrath. John proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War from 1954 to 1958 as a Seaman 1st Class aboard the USS Canisteo. After he was honorably discharged from the Navy, John worked as a carpenter until his retirement. He is survived by his children John (Christy) McGrath, Brian (Sandy) McGrath, Ginger (Bill) Francis, Colleen (Jason) Greenbusch, 14 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and two brothers Jim McGrath and Tom (Pat) McGrath. He was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife Glenda nee Kelly McGrath. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 25, 2021 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at GABEL-DUNN FUNERAL HOME, 102 S. Johnson Street, Newark, IL.
