Joan Siembieda of Oswego, IL passed on peacefully with her family at her side on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at her home. She was born October 9, 1939, in Milwaukee, WI, the daughter of the late W. F. and Margaret nee Memmel Grathwohl.

Joan's two great passions were talking and eating. She had the gift of being able to talk to anyone and always made everyone feel welcomed and included. If you were lucky enough to get a gentle punch in the arm from Joan, you knew you were loved. She was a lifelong learner, supportive, always interested and ready with a question.

Joan was an elementary school teacher for 40 years and LOVED being a teacher. Working at Woodview Elementary in Bolingbrook, she was dedicated to her students and their success was paramount for her.

Joan's dedication to her community was long and far reaching, as a young bride she worked to roll bandages for the missions, she worked on the We Care program, a program that gave food to families in need at St. Dominic's Church in Bolingbrook. After moving to Oswego, Joan was part of St. Anne's Thursday night crew at Hesed House in Aurora to feed the homeless. After retiring she became a volunteer at the Kendall County Food Pantry. She enjoyed working at the Pantry with the fun loving volunteers and helping the neighbors at the Pantry brought her joy.

Joan lost her battle with cancer, but she never lost her joy of talking and eating. Texting became her new way to communicate and stay in the loop, while Cool Whip by the gallon became her way to outwit the cancer.

Survivors include her best friend and husband Bill Siembieda, 4 children Dave (Roberta) Siembieda, Steve (Teri) Siembieda, Anne (Daniel) Gardner, Martha (Joseph) Rames, eleven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and three sisters Phyllis Heinen-Vogl, Patricia O'Rourke, and Jean (Dr Eugene) Sinclair.
