Jerald "Jerry" Russell Johnson, age 90, of Sandwich (Lake Holiday), IL passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, January 20, 2015. He was born August 17, 1924 in Big Grove Township, IL, the son of the late Milo E. Johnson and Jymina Arvilla (Viola) Hegland Johnson. Jerald was very active over the years. He was a former president of the Newark Sportsmen's Club, member of the Sheridan Grade School Board, Sandwich Community Hospital Board, LaSalle County Board, both as a member and Board Chairman, LaSalle County Auditor, Director of the Norway Cemetery, and a thirty year Board member of the Sheridan State Bank. He was the owner/operator of Johnson John Deere Implement Co., Jerry's Laundromat, Jerry Johnson Real Estate Agency, Store-it-at-Jerry's and several rental properties, all in Sheridan, IL. He enjoyed spending his leisure time on his boat, tending his flowers and mowing at Lake Holiday. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and watching the sunset over the Gulf of Mexico in Marco Island, FL. He was also a long time member of Edgebrook Country Club in Sandwich, IL where he enjoyed golfing and playing cards with friends. Jerald Johnson is survived by his son, Stephen Johnson of Sheridan, IL and daughter Connie Johnson of Sandwich, IL, grandchildren Jesse Johnson of Xiamen, China, Kristina Johnson of Chicago, IL, step grandchildren Alicia Springer of Louisville, KY, Charles Reed (Angie) Beckmeyer of Las Vegas, NV, step great grandchildren Bryce Springer of Louisville, KY, Christian and Peter Beckmeyer of Las Vegas, NV, and sister-in-law Ruth Johnson of Morris, IL. Special honorary family, Greg (Jo) Christensen of Morris, IL, honorary grandchildren Kevin (Sarah) Christensen of Chicago, IL, Keith Christensen of Channahon, IL and great granddaughter Hailey Christensen of Channahon, IL. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Ford Johnson, brother Robert Johnson of Morris, IL, daughter-in-law Jerrylyn Johnson of Sheridan, IL and special partner Joan Christensen of Morris, IL. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2015 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM at the Gabel-Dunn Funeral Home Ltd. in Sheridan.
