James Allen Wiese, 97, of Sheridan, Illinois, affectionately known to many as Paw Paw, passed away peacefully on October 29,2025, in the comfort of the home he built in 1955, surrounded by his devoted family.
Jim was born on August 24, 1928, in Abbotsford, Wisconsin, to Henry and Birdie Bell (Dickinson) Wiese. On June 19, 1954, he married the love of his life, Joyce L. Johnson. Together they shared 48 wonderful years and built a living legacy that includes three daughters Roni, Tamara, and Marla; six grandchildren Brandy, Britney, Rebecca, Rachel, Morgan, and Jared; ten great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Jim is also survived by his brother, David, and sister, Carol. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce; his parents; brothers Wayne and Lynn; and sisters Nina and Lois.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, Jim served in Japan during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He was a lifelong member of the Sheridan American Legion Post #729, where he once served as Commander. You could often find him there enjoying a cold one or serving them up with a smile.
Jim and Joyce owned and operated Quik Pik Corner in Sheridan and Purple Pride Video in Plano for many years. He retired after 38 years as a supervisor at National Metal Wares in Aurora, a milestone that gave him more time to enjoy the things he loved most his family, his enormous garden, and a well-earned Miller High Life.
A celebration of life luncheon will be held at the Sheridan American Legion on Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., for all who wish to pay their respects.
In lieu of flowers or memorials, the family encourages you to "buy a drink for Jim" in support of the local American Legion - a place that meant so much to him. A private family inurnment will take place at Eldering Cemetery at a later date.
Arrangements are under the personal care and attention of GABEL-DUNN FUNERAL HOME, 333 W. Church Street, Sheridan, IL 60541.
